1987 Ozzie Smith #749

$15.50

PSA 8: #64637609 - Near Mint to Mint

Ozzie Smith was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals from the San Diego Padres prior to the 1982 season. At the time, Smith was seeking a significant raise in his salary. However, the Padres were not willing to meet his demands. The negotiations between Smith's agent and the Padres' management reached an impasse, leading to a breakdown in their relationship. In an effort to resolve the situation, the Padres decided to explore trade options for Smith. The Cardinals expressed interest and were able to strike a deal with the Padres, acquiring Smith in exchange for shortstop Garry Templeton and a few other players. The trade turned out to be a significant move for the Cardinals as Ozzie Smith quickly became an integral part of their team. He went on to have a remarkable career with the Cardinals, earning numerous accolades, including multiple Gold Glove Awards, All-Star selections, and a World Series championship in 1982.
