Jesse Barfield was drafted by the Blue Jays in ’77 and made his MLB debut with the team in ’81. He won a Gold Glove award in ’86 for his outstanding defense in rightfield and became feared for his strong arm and ability to throw out baserunners. He was an All-Star for the 1st time in his career in ’86 when he hit 27 home runs and had 84 RBIs. After a trade to the Yankees, he hit a career-high 28 home runs and had 87 RBIs in his first season with the team. He retired from baseball in 1992 after playing for the Yankees, California Angels, and New York Mets.
