SGC 4: #1504372 - Very Good to Excellent

ROOKIE card of one of the greats in the game (back in the day).

Though not well known in this era, Bobby Mitchell was an exceptional running back and wide receiver during his NFL career, particularly during his tenure with the Cleveland Browns. Although primarily known for his time with the Washington Redskins, Mitchell spent his first four seasons with the Cleveland Browns from 1958 to 1961 before getting traded. The trade, of course, coincided with the arrival of the superstar Jim Brown.

Mitchell showcased his versatility as both a running back and a receiver. He was a dual-threat player who could contribute both in the running game and as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. He consistently demonstrated his speed, agility, and elusiveness. In his four seasons with the Browns, he accumulated a total of 2,297 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. Mitchell was known in particular for his big-play ability. He had a knack for breaking long runs and making explosive plays, often providing a spark to the Browns' offense. His performance in Cleveland earned him the selectionto the Pro Bowl in each of his last three seasons with the Browns (1959-1961). This recognition highlights his impact and the respect he garnered from his peers and coaches.

After his time with the Browns, Mitchell was traded to the Washington Football Team in 1962, where he continued to excel and cemented his legacy as one of the greats in NFL history. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
