McCullers pitched for the Quad Cities River Bandits of the Class A Midwest League in 2013, helping them to win the Midwest League championship. It was during this season that McCullers signed this baseball prior to a game versus the Lansing Lugnuts, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. For the 2014 season, McCullers was promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks in the Class A-Advanced California League. The JetHawks went on to become the 2014 California League champions after beating the Northern Division champion Visalia Rawhide. It would not take long for McCullers to reach the major leagues following this great start to his professional career.
